My 2005 Melaka full marathon experience
I didn't achieve my minimum goal run non stop at Melaka full marathonon 17 July, make me felt sad after 30km hit the wall,non matter Ierase my PR or not,I just want to have a first time experience run nonstop in Malaysia full marathon.
It was not easy,as we are amateur,and our ability of running,I train hard for this Melaka full marathon,may be I need to have more experience to achieve my goal,it is ok for me after return to PJ,not so sad liao !
My plan for this Melaka marathon is use my ultramarathon formula,thatis landing more flat and also consistent pacing,aim every 10km for 55 minutes ,but the result show that I may need more train and more race to gain experience to fullfill my run non stop dream in future full marathon.
Before the flag off,one of the Melaka AA official said that full marathon qualifying time is 4 hours,it make a lot of participant surprise,and this official said that the medal and cert will not give away,counter will close,I shouted and said crazy lah,I will not take part in next year,one time enough liao..... !
Penguin 2 said 5hrs lah! The official don care ! Anyway ,at the end they gave all to who completed the full marathon race cert and finisher medal.
However,the announcement make me pressure and some angry at the early stage,cause they didn't mention in entry form,very upset their ability of organise,cause even some of our bib also have to change temporary and don have reporting card , don have placing card,it was terrible.
The only thing I can praise is the water station is not so bad,even some sponging station provide VIVA sport drink,I never miss to take VIVA,except one of the sponging finished VIVA,may be I am too lateliao!The other one is traffic control also not bad lah !
Late start about 7 minutes,the sky looking to rain,cause have thunderstorm ,after few km,small rain,but lucky it was not soheavy,nice weather,Hasri and Peguin 11 plus Kiara Tan(51yrs,other MP3man) intend pace me,but I let them went after few km,cause found their pace too fast for me !
Pass by Mahkota century hotel at about 5km mark,very appreciate Ronnie and CM woke up so early to cheer for us...kam siah a lot ! I said to them qualifying time was 4hrs,I thought they don't know that time.....!
I like the seaside running road,altough after Mahkota century hotel,ithas high flight over bridge ,for me it was nice !
After we ran in town street ,I kept my pace,no kc,no rush,calm down my negative feeling about the 4hrs q time.
At 10km mark,my time was 53:18,I saw Bong,altough he don't know me !
But I only found him b4 went to Melaka,cause saw him at KLIM DVD,foundhis name,and also he was recommend share transport by Jamie.
I found him always train alone to Hartamas in early morning ! I ask him u r Bong? Came to Melaka with Shine ? He said yes ! Than I reply he has foto with me,he answer u bring bo ?
hehehe,Difficult I looking for him so long liao ,so I reply put in home,will contact him by email.Then he said,will you felt heavy with two bottles of water ?
He tried to overtake for a while,then I bring up my spirit to overtake him,and I didn't looking back.Just concetrate my race plan.
Before turn right to 20km mark,I finally saw Hasri face difficulty ran n walk due to less training.I overtoke him and encourage him COME ON,then I ran alone...so lonely feeling.....!!
Reached 21km,my time is1:54:26,still feeling good !
But my bad dream started near to 30km,my leg felt heavy,I knew that Ihit wall...so sad...how come ? Cause I knew that I have the ability should run non stop for atleast 3hrs.......cham....my heart wasbroken...then I was overtake by Eng Seok Ling(SJ eldest sister),saw her went to disappear from my eye...so sad....!!
However,after use my own counterpain,drink 100plus n also secret drink.I just use my patient and experience to continue on....saw the time past so fast...even tough I still have a chance to erase my PR,but these is not my GOAL,I just tried not to over push my cramp...!
At about 34km station..I saw penguin 11,he also cramp,even he intendto follow me,but I let him went first,just no plan to overtake him,trail him about 200metres,but at about 37km.....he face bad cramp..I just pass him,sorry ah....but praise his fighting spirit,as this isonly his 2nd full marathon...well done peguin 11 ! And his longest LSD is Seremban half !
The last one km is so long for me,I think the actual distance is about 2km...I overtake Kiara Tan at about final 800metre,according to Francis,Tan face hit wall at about 34km...he walk and chat with one guy..thisis also his 2nd full marathon after KLIM did 4:19 !
Enter the stadium finally,I saw some of Pacesetters cheers for me,I continue my run...I saw many friends...like PM gang members....I justkeep away my disappoint feeling for a while,keep it on to finishing !
My time unofficial is 4:21:52 ! Altough this was not my expected time,if I can ran non stop,sure my timing will be much better,but this ismy BEST time in my Malaysia full marathon race and also 2nd BEST time inmy full marathon race !
My PR is 4:13 which set at least year INGTaipei marathon.
I will try to run non stop at my next full marathon or in futre full marathon,probably next one is Songkhla marathon on 28 August ! Sure will keeping train hard !
At last ,I wish to thanks Master Chen in teaching me his running experience ,also Ronnie and CM cheers for us,Jamie sms to encourage our race,my good friend CCHOO to drive us ,invite dinner b4 race eve night and Ching Tai paid for Hoo Kee chicken rice .....!
The following reasons below may cause me hit the wall:
Reason 1:Less quality of LSD
I only have one 3hrs LSD..due to tight working commitment and race,Ijust try to average my total weekly mileage,altough 3 months b4 Melaka,it is about 50km to 70km plus ,but I think it was not enough ! And I think I should give up some sunday road race,change it to LSD...!Should listen to Master Chen,atleast do two 40km LSD under hot sun !
Reason 2:I shouldn't carry two bottles of water
As inform by friends that Melaka water station is not so good,so Idecide to bring one 500ml of 100plus and also one 500ml of plum water.I felt the heavy of the water,more worst was I didn't tight it up thebelt,may be too kc,only found that at 15km...pressure both of my leg.Will try not to bring water in future full marathon.
Reason 3:Not enough time to recover from hard train
I think I too kc my goal at Melaka ,so start train before 3 months,train hard at Kiara lake,even tough my final week mileage is about 66km,I should reduce the mileage,more rest to let my leg haveenough time recover.
Reason 4:My weight lost about 3.5kg
My normal weight is about 62kg,but since start hard train and keepmore healthy meal,less meat,my weight drop and drop..b4 final 2nd week countdown ,my weight is 59.5kg,then race eve,my weight was surprisingdrop to 58.5kg!
Why am I said weight may affect my performance,cause felt the heavy to carry the water liao...hehehe !
Reason 5:Didn't have enough time to rest at Melaka
Enough time to rest before race eve,is always important to a full marathon runner,I skip saturday lunch,felt sleepy on way to Melaka,waste time at collect bib,cause they miss our bib,and CCHOO son fever,so we all less sleep lah...!
Reason 6:Should calm down when 4hrs Q time announcement b4 flag off
I over kc about the Q time and also my run non stop dream,less relax,it may affect my concetration !
