My Hatyai 60km ultramarathon painfull experience

I no dare to run again any ultramarathon in future without proper training at all. This is what I think after I finished this painfull Hatyai 60km ultramarathon.

Although I have two exeperience in Kedah 12hours run,but compare to these,I have no run any 20km after KLIM,that is why I felt very lucky manage to finish it with 7hours 5 minutes. The first two Kedah 12hours run always held after KLIM,so both of my legs still felt fresh for ultramarathon.

As Penguin 2 Tan Khee Meng said, respect the distance,he also felt suffer because no training. That is a good advice for who intend to take part in any ultramarathon, don't run without proper training.Tan Khee Meng finished in 6 hours 43 minutes 40 seconds, just slower than ChingTai 30 seconds.

For CCHOO and ChingTai brothers, they train hard for Comrades ultramarathon in South Africa,so they didn't found suffer much for this Hatyai 60km ultramarathon.

ChingTai have a good timing 6 hours 43 minutes and CCHOO also did a good timing for himself finish the race in 7 hours 30 minutes.Especially both of them also make history for their first ever ultramarathon in their life,I strong believe they can gain usefull experience for well preparing in Comrades ultramarathon.

The most potential ultramarathon runner is Kenny Choo, you must respect his unlimited energy, even he finished the 60km in 5 hours 50 minutes.U know he said he didn't have any muscle pain or hit the wall after the 60km race, and u must count he did two times of BIG business during 5km and 20km..haha..cause he very enjoy the buffet at hotel and also at Piza Hut during our carbo loading time one day before the race.

Kenny Choo did train two times perweek nowday at FRIM,and one 40km LSD with CCHOO,that is why he has very good timing, not easy to maintain sub 6 minutes for 60km.

For Phyllis, she is good potential in long distance event, only she still less self confidence, but I am sure after she completed this 60km ultramarathon in her running race life, she will gain more confidence in future marathon race or ultramarathon.Although she felt suffer in final three kilometres.

Our race started late 8 minutes,we start at 12.08am,nice to meet some friends from KL and Ipoh too.

I have no idea how I can finished the 60km after 10km I felt both of my leg so heavy, this was effect of didn't train LSD.I just run slow pace and keep in 6 minutes plus per km.I felt my left sock bring me problem too, felt same as KLIM problem. But I just keep it running and running,as we are not aim for good results, main target is complete this race with relax pace.I ran most of the time with Ching Tai and Phyllis,Kenny Choo and Tan Khee Meng were far in front of us,only CCHOO left behind with steady pace.

Along the route there,if got streetlamp,it will be nice to see peoples running infront of us,but some place without streetlamp, have to becarefull, although some volunteers ride their bicycle with front light and flash light at back.

The water station located at every 2 kilometres, but only got water and fanta soft drink, then they did provide some sugar and gelly too,I only toke gelly, didn't take sugar, cause worry stomach will have problem. Before reached 28km ,I met Kenny Choo,wah...he was fast, then around 500 metres later,I snap Tan Khee Meng photo too.

When reached 30km u-turn mark, organiser provide chinese orange, sport drink too,I toke out my DC,ask volunteer snap my photos and also wait Phyllis came out from a house, snap photo for Phyllis too. Then grab some chinese orange and met with ChingTai.

I knew that my hit wall period will come anytime after 30km,as this was my LSD experience, cause don't have proper training.I was lucky cause the water station always have enough ice for me to use for relief my hit the wall period.Me,Phyllis and also ChingTai run almost side by side, but after 46km,both of my leg can't handle same pace,so ask Phyllis to go as ChingTai already ran away early from us around 400metres liao...he is serious in preparing for Comrades and train enough, not surprise for me.

The sky came bright after 6am,it is ok for me,cause I believe I will complete with run and walk to finish, although both of my legs felt alomst cramp, thanks for Chen suggestion to use sloan, this was the first time I use these pain killer, very strong, almost make my muscle felt like B-U-R-N liao...!!

My mental almost crack after 53km,hope to this final 7km finish as soon as possible, but for my condition,it was impossible,my heart ,my mind, just hoping the distance mark appear infront of me as fast as possible, but as my right knee also felt pain,I no dare to take risk,so most of the time,I just walk ,I manage to snap photos at 55km and also at 57km,when crossing to final km,my mind stress was relief, thanks Kenny Choo snap my finishing photo.

I enjoy some nice hot soya bean and also poridge...felt nice after so tough run, make my stomach warm, after toke some photos at finishing point,we all heading to hotel for buffet time..hehe...!

FYI,Although I felt jia lat during these race, but I didn't take any power gel ,power bar or plum powder,I felt it was good sign for me,proof I manage to survive during this 60km ultra, but felt dam hungry lah...hehe !

Altough the service during the route is not so good, especially the food and less sport drink, but organiser present every runners who finish the race within qualfying time 9 hours, received a nice trophy worth 600 BAHT(RM 60) and One finisher medal.

Thanks CCHOO for arrange hotel and bus,Narumol helping in registration of Hatyai 60km for us.

Enjoy in NB15K 愉快的NB15K 21.5.06

For this NB15K,at the beginning I didn't intend to join, but at the end I am no regret to take part, cause I really enjoy, not only because of these nice route, but can met up with so many regular running friends, most important can snap photos and run along the hilly route.

I ran saturday about 18km,haven't run more than 10km recently due to my work and also my mood.Treat this race at good warm up for my 60km in coming sunday.I felt sleepy on race morning, but when reached Bukit Aman met up with CCHOO and Ching Tai,my heart felt excited, plan to bring the DC,standby for my mood to snap foto.

After ask pm21 to help take care of my bag,I bring my DC to the starting point, snap some friends foto, like pm2 Kelvin and others.

At the beginning I didn't plan at all so fast to stop and snap foto, after reached the first station, haha, saw Ameba,Chee Wee and surprise Phyllis, they really concetrate and pay concetration o their duty deliver the water to runners, thanks for them.

I ask one st john gal to snap my foto, then snap ameba,Chee Wee and Phyllis foto, then I continue my race,I knew that CM,Bo Se and Kenny Choo all past me,I don't really care, just enjoy the race as no plan to pia for this 15k.So...I just run and snap foto at the beginning of Double Hills, like Uncle Hooi,KNN,CCHOO,Jamie and many others.

I really enjoy joke with KNN,cause I saw him no train but pia like Singapore KIASU..haha...then saw Jamie after more than 10km....told him KNN infront about 100metres..haha....!!

I increase my pace at last 5km,although felt little tire, cause stop few times for snap foto, but really enjoy, especially after the monument,my pace felt like sub 5minutes pace, thanks Wan Yew Leong announce my name...sinchew reporter Tey running with his camera..haha...overtoke vege as many as possible. Finally my finishing time is 1:24:24..aiyooo....jia lat !! ( Want senang mati, senang mati...)

Along these race,if you found me and found your foto in my album, please let me know,I can send you the original size photo if you want.

For coming race,I will continue plan this, just rebuild my mood, for running, for healthy, for future,I will serve running as my hobby ,although not as my life, cause so many good friends in running, most important will play as promote running habit in future.

NB15K n KLCC 1 Lap

NB15K official press release

Press release from Pacesetters for NB15K.Thanks ST TAN.

New Balance Pacesetters 15km Run 2006

Kuala Lumpur, 21st May 2006 - The New Balance Pacesetters 15km Run 2006 held on Sunday 21st May attracted 1,460 participants, the largest number recorded by the organizers since the annual race debuted in 2003. The challenging Double Hill/Carcosa route did not deter the running enthusiasts, even though this annual 15km Run does not offer prize money; instead the top five winners of each category were awarded New Balance product vouchers. Such was the popularity of the annual event initiated and organized by the Pacesetters Athletic Club Malaysia (PACM).

The event was gunned off by Alex Lim of New Balance at 7.00am sharp. Leading the pack were elite runners such as Shaharudin Hashim from Royal Malaysian Police, Iwata Takatoshi of Pacesetters, Sithon Kaewmuang from Thailand, and former Malaysian runner Supermaniam G), cheered on by PACM cheerleaders.

While this is considered a local event, it nevertheless attracted about 60 runners from Singapore, 13 from United Kingdom and one from Thailand. The spread of international communities, including those residing in Malaysia and Singapore, is quite impressive which included British, Irish, Australians, Japanese, Americans, Dutch, Polish, South Africans, Germans, Canadians, Swedish, New Zealanders, Brazilian, Thai, Finnish, Filipino,Chilean, Indian, Hong Kong, Burmese, Hungarian, Indonesian, French and Ghanian.

The number of outstation runners had increased from previous years, with the largest contingent coming from Kuantan (45). Among the runners this year is the Ambassador of Chile, HE Patricio Torres.

Runners wore specially designed quality running vests provided by New Balance to complete the challenging 15km hilly route. There were no losers as every runner who finished the race within the qualified time received a pewter finisher medal.

Unique to the 15km Run is the photo-finish arranged by the PACM for all participants. The moment of glory of each runner in finishing the 15km race was captured on camera and the digital photo would be inserted onto the certificate. The certificate would also include each runner’s finishing time, category position, gender position and overall position in the race. This probably accounts for the popularity of the 15km race, as no other road races in Malaysia have offered runners this special memento of a road race, besides the pewter finisher medals.

On completion of the run, runners were served a hearty breakfast comprising fruits, nasi lemak, breakfast cereals, porridge, instant noodles, savoury buns, tau foo fah, and cendol.

The prize presentation to the top runners followed after breakfast and rounding up the race was the much-awaited lucky draws. Lucky runners walked away with prizes sponsored by New Balance and Milo and Polar.

The New Balance Pacesetters 15km Run 2005 was divided into 6 categories: Men Open, Men Veteran, Men Senior Veteran, Women Open, Women Veteran and Women Senior Veteran. The title sponsor was New Balance, an international brand in footwear and sports apparel. The main sponsor was Milo, an established brand in fortified food drinks with Powerbar, Nestle Fitnesse and Fuji Film as co-sponsors. The Federal Territory Amateur Athletic Association provided the technical assistance for this event and the official hotel is the Coronade Hotel.

The top 5 winners from each category were

Run at KLCC
